As kids edge towards the highest grades and ultimately college, they need to demonstrate sophisticated analytical and writing skills. This workshop aims to give them intense practice with these skills in preparation for the upper grades. Basic text comprehension as well as critical thinking skills will be reinforced through reading and group discussions. Further, students will get solid practice with different categories of reading materials (research, poetry, novel) that are relevant for PSAT/SAT preparation.
Open Your Mind: Investigate and Transform the World Around You
Dates: July 31 – August 4
This intensive week-long class is designed to challenge high school students to identify, plan, design, and develop solutions to relevant issues in today’s world. They will learn the process of design thinking which will help Open Their Minds and they will master the necessary skills to more effectively and efficiently complete tasks both individually and in groups, to engage deeply with material that matters to them, and to find solutions that they are committed to and are able to present to classmates and beyond. Students who participate will gain valuable deeper learning skills that will navigate them through high school, college, and life.
Public Speaking: Don’t Just Speak, Speak Up!
Dates: July 17 – July 21 (session 1), July 24 - July 27 (session 2)
Kids on the brink of adult professional lives, can benefit from early training in formal communication practices including interviewing and presentations. This week long workshop submerges high schoolers in multi layered communication training. They will conduct and participate in interviews, actively reflect on the process and create formal presentations based on their interview projects. Within the framework of interviews and project presentations, executive functioning and research skills will also be reinforced. If your child has a way with words, and loves to analyze information, he or she will truly enjoy this class.
Real Life, Real Problems, Real Math, Real Solutions
Dates: August 7 – August 11
This advanced Geometry class steers clear of standard classroom lessons to reinforce Geometry concepts by exploring real life problems and activities. This one week class will focus on technical skill building and application of concepts in the fields of art, architecture and physics. If your High Schooler is a creative and complex thinker, looking for an intellectual break from the lazy hazy days of summer, s/he will love this Geometry of a different shape!
