NJTSS Understanding & Home Support

New Jersey’s Tiered System of Supports (NJTSS) is a framework that helps schools provide the right level of support to every student. It works through multiple tiers: universal supports that benefit all students, targeted interventions for students who need additional help, and intensive supports for students who require more specialized assistance. The system uses data to identify student needs early and adjust supports as students progress, ensuring that every child has access to what they need to succeed.

Family understanding and engagement are essential to making NJTSS work effectively. When families know what supports their child is receiving, why those supports were chosen, and how progress is being measured, they can reinforce learning at home and communicate more effectively with teachers. Families also bring valuable insights about their child’s strengths, challenges, and what works outside of school; this information helps educators make better decisions about supports and interventions.
