Addressing Issues of Equity and Engagement in Computer Science (CS) through a Research Practice Partnership: The CS Teaching and Learning Collaboratory

In this $1,000,000 project, the Rutgers University Center for Effective School practices leverages an existing researcher-practitioner partnership (RPP) to increase the capacity of high schools in the region to deliver rigorous, high-quality computer science education (CSE) to all students, irrespective of race, socioeconomic status, or nationality. Working with teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors from over 15 school districts across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, CESP delivers content and pedagogical professional development opportunities in coordination with the Rutgers University Computer Science Department.
Through site visits, monthly RPP virtual calls, annual 5-day Summer Institutes, and ongoing collaboration via a Mobilize platform, this project seeks to broaden the participation of underrepresented populations in CSE by supporting high school teachers. This project began in January 2018 and is scheduled to end in 2021 through an extension with the NSF.
