Dr. Robert R. Zywicki is the Senior Strategic Advisor of the Rutgers University Center for Effective School Practices. He has served the center since 2014, most recently as Superintendent in Residence (2023-2026) and previously as Professional Development Coordinator (2014-2022). In those roles he led the Center’s district-facing work on multi-tiered systems of support, graduation pathways, program audits, and board governance. He now advises the center on strategy, partnerships, and its evaluation work with school districts and education providers.
Dr. Zywicki is a two-time PK-12 superintendent, and two time assistant superintendent having led urban, rural, and suburban. His expertise spans MTSS, comprehensive assessment, differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and school finance.
He is the author of All Paths Lead to Graduation: Fulfilling the Promise of an Education in America, published by the MTSS Leadership Network, and a national speaker on MTSS and graduation rate improvement. He has been recognized as a District Thought Leader by Future Ready Schools, a Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association, and a Friend of Education by the NJEA. He co-authored the NJDOE’s Road Back COVID-19 reentry manual in 2020 and has served on state and national advisory bodies on literacy standards, computer science curriculum, interdistrict school choice, and federal funding for at-risk learners. His work has been featured by Education Week, District Administration, School Administrator, and ASCD.
Dr. Zywicki holds an Ed.D. and M.A. from Saint Peter’s University, an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, and a B.A. from Rutgers University. He is a member of AASA, NJAEL, and ISTE
