Family Brief: Choosing The Right Book

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION

This resource helps families evaluate whether the books their child is reading are a good fit, including books chosen at home, assigned at school, or picked up at the library. It explains what to look for when a book is too hard or too easy, what a well-matched text actually looks like in practice, and why a child's interest in a topic often matters more than reading level alone. It also introduces four formats that can make reading more accessible: decodable books, high-interest low-level texts, audiobook pairings, and adapted texts.
